Dear brothers and sisters, wherever you are in the world you carry our homeland in your heart. Though distance separates us, we remain bound by the same red soil, the same rolling hills, and the same unbreakable spirit that defines us as Burundians.

The Journey of Our People

Our nation’s story is one of resilience. Over the years, many of our people have been forced to leave—some fleeing violence, others seeking opportunity, all carrying the hope of one day returning to a better Burundi.

  • The elders among us remember the first great exodus, when scholars, leaders, and families were scattered across the world.

  • Others recall the painful years of conflict, when entire communities were displaced, seeking safety beyond our borders.

  • More recently, young dreamers and change-makers have left, not by choice but necessity, taking with them their talents and potential.

Yet, no matter where life has taken us, we remain abarundi—Burundians at our core.

The Burundi We See Today

While our homeland is rich in culture, resilience, and natural beauty, it still faces deep challenges:

  • Malnutrition: Nearly 6 in 10 children grow up stunted, their futures limited before they even begin.

  • Education: Schools are filled, but too many children drop out—only a fraction finish secondary school, and universities struggle with overcrowding and underfunding.

  • A Youthful Nation: More than half of Burundians are under 18. This could be our greatest strength—if we invest in them.

  • Rebuilding Society: Healthcare, infrastructure, and economic opportunity remain fragile, yet local leaders work tirelessly to restore hope.

The Invitation: Let Us Rebuild Together

The Burundi we dream of will not be built by outsiders—it will be built by us, in partnership with those already working on the ground.

Across our country, brave Burundians are leading change:

  • Justice advocates working to heal wounds and restore dignity.

  • Teachers and mentors shaping the next generation.

  • Doctors and nurses fighting malnutrition and disease.

  • Entrepreneurs creating jobs and fueling local economies.

Now, we ask you: How will you join them?

  • If you have skills, partner with a local school, hospital, or business.

  • If you have resources, invest in a community project or sponsor a child’s education.

  • If you have a voice, amplify the work of those on the ground.

  • If you have the means, return—even for a time—to contribute directly.

This is not about charity. This is about solidarity—standing with our people to rebuild from within.

The Time Is Now

Burundi’s future is not written yet. It will be shaped by those who believe in it enough to act.
