Burundi Youth for Christ (BYFC) pioneered two schools: Future hope school (FHS) and Gitega International Academy (GIA). They also have an orphanage called Homes of Hope (HoH). Check out their website for more information: https://www.yfcburundi.org

Amahoro neza! I’m Bihumugani Horacio, and I’ve just completed an amazing month and a half volunteering with BYFC in Gitega. From teaching children about computers to reconnecting with old friends, every moment was filled with joy and growth. Here’s a glimpse of my journey!

Future Hope School of Bwoga – Teaching young kids the basics of computers was a delight, especially when they thought a mouse was something to chase! I also enjoyed being the librarian, organizing books, and sharing stories with the welcoming staff.

Gitega International Academy (GIA) – As a GIA alumnus, returning was a full-circle moment. I worked as a library assistant and admin helper, soaking in the school spirit and sharing laughs with students and staff.

Masenga & Homes of Hope – Staying at the Homes of Hope orphanage was humbling. Teaching, playing, and listening to the kids reminded me of the power of kindness.

Volunteering with BYFC was life-changing. Despite challenges, the hope and love BYFC brings to children’s lives are undeniable. Would I recommend it? Absolutely!
